Moon Hough is the co-owner and co-founder of The Safari Series.

The Safari Series is a collection of intimate, purpose-driven safari experiences rooted in Kenya’s wild places and coastal heritage. From the small, homely feel of Moon’s Camp on Lolldaiga Conservancy to the laid-back Swahili elegance of Chuchungi House, each stay is personal, conservation-led, and deeply connected to community. Through the African Private Guides Network, her team champions Africa’s best, brightest and most up-and-coming private safari guides - ensuring exceptional storytelling, access to quality booking and meaningful impact for both travelers and the people who make safari extraordinary.

Moon has lived and worked in Kenya since graduating from university and has spent her time working in tourism in a number of capacities, both on the luxury lodge side and on the operator side. This foundation in all facets of the hospitality industry means that Moon has a deep knowledge of travel and tourism in Kenya.

Since starting The Safari Series in November 2019 (worst timing ever!), Moon has expanded her knowledge to sales, bookings, accounts, operations, procurement, HR and everything in between. As the pandemic took hold of the first two years of business, Moon learnt skills that only come from ‘making things work’. Post-pandemic, Moon and Ed have worked hard to protect the stunning landscape by donating profits towards community-led conservation projects.

Moon is passionate about bringing the safari experience to a larger and more diverse group of travelers and truly believes in the David Attenborough quote: ‘No one will protect what they don’t care about, and no one will care about what they have never experienced’. Moon was mentioned as an ‘inspiring woman in travel’ by The Conscious Travel Foundation.

Moon is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and has wide ranging interests from reading, podcasts, art and movies to horse riding, walking and swimming and, in 2023, spent a year learning the technique to building a cob (read: mud) house, a passion project that led to the building of a fully ‘zero cement’ home.
