Introducing Moon's Camp's new Community Fee - what is this, where it's going and why we're charging it

At the beginning of February, we introduced a new $10 per person per night Community fee for all new bookings Over the previous 12 months, we have been steadily increasing our commitment to the community's that's around Lolldaiga Hills - whether that looks like school meals, football teams or community visits.

This month, we have partnered with The Leo Project. TLP designs, delivers and sustains healthcare programmes that drive meaningful social change across Kenya. Their headquarters and Community Healthcare Clinic are located just one village away, in Jua Kali, making this partnership both practical and deeply rooted in the local community. Their professionalism and dedication to quality health care, along side their almost at-cost prices, mean that anyone can access their work.

Mugumo is the village closest to the main gate of Lolldaiga Conservancy and is home to a predominantly farming community. Many of Moon's Camp staff who work with us grew up in this village and continue to live there with their families.

This Outreach Day will focus on maternal health and diabetes care and prevention. On Saturday, we will have a car taking team members from the camp to the village so, even while our team are working hard, they don't miss out on the chance to access as well.

For us, supporting local communities is not simply about doing something good - it’s about ensuring that our staff, their families and our neighbours have access to the quality healthcare they deserve.

Strong communities are the foundation of sustainable conservation and tourism. Conservation succeeds when the people living closest to wildlife see tangible benefits and feel supported in their daily lives. By investing in healthcare and community wellbeing, we are also investing in the long-term protection of the landscapes and wildlife we care about.

When your guests stay with us, you and they can know that their visit has a direct positive impact on both the landscape and the communities that surround the property - just another reason to book with us!
