Conservation
At our home, we are deeply committed to making a positive impact on the local community and conserving the natural beauty of the area.
Every aspect of our operations reflects this dedication, from supporting local artisans and businesses to implementing eco-friendly practices. By sourcing materials locally and reducing waste, we aim to create a sustainable and harmonious environment for both our guests and the community.
By staying at our house and by paying the conservation fee, our efforts in conservation help preserve the pristine coastline and vibrant marine ecosystems, you are ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy the natural beauty of our surroundings.
Through collaboration with local organizations and a commitment to responsible tourism, we strive to be a force for good, enhancing the well-being of the community and protecting the environment. You can see that through our team - almost everyone that works at Chuchungi House is from the Lamu area (and many from Kipungani village).
We highly recommend guests take part in the community visit to Kipungani village, to learn more about coastal life for the communities who call the island home - visit the local school, enjoy chai with the women’s group and see how traditional work on dhows keeps the men of the village in employment.
