About Us

More than the ‘Big Five’: authentic and endless…

With a focus on viewing, learning, experiencing and understanding wildlife, interacting with the rangers who keep them safe, as well as the local communities who live in the region. The idea that a visit to Kenya should be limited to a checklist of ‘Big Five’ animals saddens us, since there is so much more to see and do in this incredible country. We pride ourselves on authenticity and providing unique experiences that suit anyone looking to open themselves to endless possibilities.

Every day ends in our camp with a cold beer, a campfire, a hot shower and then a warm bed. We love guests who are looking for an experience that goes above and beyond.

Meet the Team

Ed, Moon, Romilly & Patrick Hough - Your Hosts

Ed is a man who loves being on safari, loves his home in Kenya, and loves his animals too. Ed’s love of cars started early, and he is becoming a better bush mechanic every day. He believes there is no better car for the bush than a Series One Land Rover Ed has run camps for over a decade,

providing strategic and organisational help with his Bush Business programme, and has worked with high profile clients from around the world as a trainer and management consultant. His success running corporate camps, love for safari and 4x4s naturally lead to the creation of The Safari Series.Moon is an experienced hand at organising world class safaris. She has worked in the luxury travel industry in Kenya for years and is used to creating and executing the most interesting safari itineraries. When Moon is not organising trips of a life time she is living them. Moon has become a keen enduro-motorcyclist she can be tracked down riding her bike deep in the bush. Luckily for all those on safari with her she is a firm believer in good food, good drink and better sleep. Romilly is no longer the newbie to to the world of safaris - she isn’t allowed to the camp too much at the moment. Being deep within the ‘terrible’ years means that she stays at home where her shouting, dancing and bossing people about is appreciated (tolerated). Patrick, the real new member, saw his first elephant the day he left Nanyuki hospital. He, too, has the travel bug born into him and we look forward to seeing how him and the camp grow together.

We cannot thank the Safari Series team enough for providing us with the best week of our lives. We chose the the Safari Series for our honeymoon and were not disappointed. The team were so friendly, fun and knowledgeable. We saw over a 100 different species of birds and an incredible amount of wildlife.

We saw so many Lions and a beautiful Leopard thanks to James’s incredible tracking and eyesight. Riding with the rangers, suppers by the fire and a walk in the conservancy all add to the amazing week we had. Moon, Ed and the team have hit the nail on the head for providing a once in a lifetime experience of living life in the bush surrounded by magnificent wildlife. However they make it so good you have to go back and scrap all ideas of it being once in a lifetime!! We will see you all again soon xx

We cant say enough about this group of wonderful people. From the owners, Moon and Ed to the staff that treated us like family (My wife and I plus our two kids 12 and 10 years old). For anyone wondering if going on Safari with young kids works, we can say that it was the trip of a lifetime for everyone.

The kids were engaged the whole time, not only with trying to find all the animals on the Safari Bingo, but also learning how to make bow and arrows and starting a fire with just a stick and some elephant poo! Sleeping under the stars, Kenyan sunrises, Kenyan Sundowners, plenty of animals and most importantly, we had them practically all to ourselves as Safari Series is on a conservency which means, not 50 cars surrounding a pride of loins. Elijjah, our guide was an absolute gem of a human being. His heart and sole is in it and you can tell. If you're into the idea of "tent safari" but still like some amenities like a running toilet, this is the perfect mix of "roughing it" while still being spoiled after those early wake up calls. Oh, and if you fancy doing a self drive in an vintage land rover one afternoon in the Kenyan aftenoon sun, this is probably one of the few places that let you do that!

Love Safari Series! This latest visit (2 nights) was made with my family in memory of my dear wife Anne who passed away two years ago. As a family we had lived in Kenya for 6 years in the 70s 80s and 90s and fell in love with the country and the adventures of safaris. Safari series takes us back to some of those days with “Hemingway Style “ bush tents that keep the feel of those days.

Simple, comfortable, close to nature yet with hot showers in each tent, dining under canvas and great food, wonderful staff and the ever hospitable and knowledgeable Ed and Moon as hosts (and Andrew this time too). Elijah was our guide and he was stellar. So knowledgeable and a great game spotter on our various safaris in the beautiful Loldaiga hills. Thanks all for a wonderful safari adventure. My granddaughters (ages 9 and 13) independently told me this safari was “the best thing they had ever done”. Hoping to return again!

Nairobi, Kenya

Such a special find in a special place. It felt like we had stumbled across a hidden gem - we hardly saw another sole other than our group the whole weekend, the landscape in Lolldaiga is beautiful and vast and varied, and it felt like we were seeing animals truly wild and comfortable in their natural habitat.

The Safari Series experience itself was incredible and we couldn't have asked for more. You have everything you need there - 3 meals a day (and genuinely some of the best food I've had in Kenya so far - all hand made, mix of salads, meat and veggie options, often 3 courses for lunch and dinner!), amazing hosts, guides and staff, a fun and relaxed atmosphere (you can either jam pack your days, or take some time to relax at the camp). The tents were really lovely with very comfy beds, private bathrooms, and then a separate main tent for meals, with a warming log burner, more comfy sofas, books and a general cosy atmosphere. Our head guide James was incredibly knowledgeable, kind and engaging, and clearly very passionate about conservation and the animals. We had a really fun first day taking part in the 'Big Bird Day', spotting over 122 species between our group (with no help from amateur me, but I loved learning more and hearing the squeals of excitement from the true enthusiasts when a rare species was spotted), all the while stumbling across herds of elephants, zebras, giraffes and even a stalking leopard on our way back in the evening! The second day we got up even earlier and James took us up one of the hills to watch the sunrise over the incredible seating - a truly magical experience. The rest of the day we did another couple of amazing game drives and when the rain came in the afternoon we had the happiest time watching all the many different animals playing in the rain. Couldn't have asked for a better end to our trip! Thanks so much to Ed and everyone else there for hosting us!

Moon & Ed have put together the most incredible place which makes for a really special Safari experience. The camp set-up is simple but well kitted out with everything you could possibly need. The tents are spacious and comfortable - the staff make sure you are well looked after and warm at night - especially as it can get quite chilly in the evenings at altitude - finding a hot water bottle in your bed was a real touch!

The food was really delicious, fresh and locally sourced. All the guests eat together which gives a great community feel to your stay. Lolldaiga Hills is truly spectacular and remote - we rarely saw any other people around. Mount Kenya in the distance, rising above the clouds, makes for an incredible backdrop. There was so much wildlife to see which we started spotting the moment we drove through the gates - cheetahs, lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebra to name a few! Special mention to James, our guide, whose knowledge on flora and fauna is endless and whose passion for wildlife really shines through. Excellent driving too - especially getting up close to a group of lions as they chased down a kill. Elijah was also an excellent guide on our night drive and has almost beyond-human eyesight for spotting wildlife. Thank you again - we can't recommend the Safari Series enough and hope to be back soon!

Not sure from where to start.... everything was excellent, from the Welcome, the food, the tent, the safaris, the company, the talks, the fire... or the breakfast with the elephants in front of us.... . Everyone was extremely nice and helpful with my kids... the games drives with the open land rovers were really nice with the beauty of only crossing 1 or 2 other cars during the game drive,

either with Mount Kenya next to you or with a magnificent open view as if you had all Kenya in front of you. We also had a wonderful picnic on the top of a mountain. We stayed in the family tent which was so big that the small kids could run inside 😉 it was very nice to have the outside bathroom open to the sky and the stars. I found what i was looking for: a long weekend out of Nairobi with "quality time" with my 3 kids (2,4 and 11y) and will definitely go back
