Conservation on horseback; join the Lolldaiga mounted ranger patrol and help with important conservation work

The Safari Series guests are now able to join the Lolldaiga mounted ranger patrol team on their daily patrol across the conservancy and get involved in important conservation work, from horseback. The ride, which is approx 4-5 hours long, joins the ranger team as they count and log wildlife, report sightings, check fencelines, monitor species and more. The horseback ranger patrol is a first of its kind in Kenya and gives guests the opportunity to see conservation in action, and speak to rangers about their role in keeping this landscape safe.

Horse riding on safari brings you closer to nature in a way that no other mode of transport can. Horses have been integral to African culture for centuries, and they offer a unique blend of grace and power that makes them the perfect companions for a safari adventure. Unlike the noise of engines, the gentle clip-clop of hooves allows you to become one with the environment, approaching wildlife with a sense of natural rhythm.

Horseback safaris often take you off the beaten path, allowing you to explore areas that are inaccessible by vehicles (although never Land Rovers!). You can traverse rugged terrain, and meander through dense bush, uncovering hidden gems of natural beauty. This sense of adventure and exploration adds an extra layer of excitement to your safari experience.

When camp owner, Moon, joined the ranger patrol she not only enjoyed a beautiful ride across the hills, but also saw a huge amount of wildlife and logged a number of species that had been seen during the four hours. As well as that, the ranger team noted a large piece of old metal hidden in some long grass - dangerous to wildlife and horses alike, the riding team logged the metal and it was later picked and disposed of safely.

Safety is a top priority when it comes to horseback safaris. Lolldaiga Hills provides well-trained horses and experienced guides who are not only experts in horse riding but also have extensive knowledge of the local wildlife and terrain. Safety briefings, helmets, and guidelines for responsible wildlife viewing are standard practices. All the horses on Lolldaiga have been used for safaris for years and are highly trained around wildlife.

The ride is suitable for good riders and is between 4-5 hours long. It is a cost of $200 per person with a $150 donation towards the project. This fee is an added extra for both of our rate packages.
