Enjoy a Land Rover safari in Kenya with The Safari Series

Of course, one of our most asked questions by guests looking to join The Safari Series on a safari holiday in Kenya is; ‘can I drive these classic cars myself on my holiday?’.

Many of our guests are Land Rover or classic car lovers and so the excitement of being able to drive them, on an off-road adventure and down the dusty tracks of the game park, is one of the reasons why they book on the spot.

We have always believed that a true safari cannot be experienced from the back of a safari car - instead, we prefer you to take they keys and let you do the exploring. It’s up to you what you see, where you go and when you do it.

And unlike the more ‘usual’ overland, or self-drive, holiday experience you usually find in Africa, our cars are met at the end of the day with beautiful, comfortable tents, delicious home cooked food and hot showers - making the experience family friendly for everyone.

Making your way down tracks while driving yourself in a classic Land Rover safari car can be an exciting experience for those who love vintage cars like these. Add an wildlife such as elephant, giraffe and even lion and the whole experience becomes even more thrilling - real adventure travel!

And don’t be put off if you (or another family member) aren’t ‘classic car obsessed’ - we have the perfect option for you too. We have converted two of our most comfortable cars (a Series II Land Rover and a Land Rover Defender) into safari cars, perfect for spotting African wildlife on safari. Being comfortable, and with their own driver and guide, you can enjoy Kenya’s best wildlife and views over Mt. Kenya in quiet and comfort.

Our fleet of cars include:

  • Land Rover SI 109 (1958)

  • Land Rover SI 86 (1954)

  • Land Rover SI 107 (1954)

  • Land Rover SI 88 (1957)

  • Land Rover SII 109 (1966)*

  • Land Rover Defender 200tdi (1991)*

  • Land Rover Defender  300tdi (1997)

And a question for the real Land Rover fans - can you recognise (and name!) the specific model in our logo? Comment below if you think you know the answer!
