Finding... "The King"

Everyone who comes to Africa wants to find β€œThe Kind of the Jungle” - seeing a lion in real life can be an exhilarating and unforgettable experience. During a recent safari with guests from both America and England, we tracked lions for several days - of course, with the help of excellent guides Julius and Peter.

Lions are nocturnal, shy and well-camouflaged - making finding them in several thousand acres of untouched and empty wilderness a challenge. At The Safari Series, we rarely (if ever!) use walkie-talkies to communicate with others in the area (we think this ruins the fun a bit!) so the suspense of finding beautiful wildlife such as lions comes down to expert trackers such as Peter or Julius, quite a bit of time, and a whole lot of luck.

This time around, our guests were blessed with good luck and we found a number of groups of male lions over several days. The big males were relaxing in the long grass, but treated us to a couple of great shots for the camera.

Our guests left feeling ecstatic and were happy to have ticked this bucket list spot off their list - a real African wildlife treat for them! We always try to make sure all our guests see the best wildlife on their safari in Kenya, but unlike other camps we focus on the art of guiding, tracking and spending time understanding the landscape around us - making for a real, wholesome and authentic experience.
