Golden beaches, great food, activities galore and beautiful weather - the most perfect beach holiday you can imagine….
Our three bedroom private beach house is nestled away on a pristine beach on the tip of Kenya’s Lamu Island.
Built in Swahili style, the house is cool, breezy and perfect for a small group or family. With fantastic staff from the local area, delicious, healthy and sustainably caught fish-based menus and more activities than you can imagine - the house is perfect for families with children of all ages or groups of friends looking to relax.
Spend your days sitting by the pool, reading and book and enjoying a cold beer, or out on the speedboat donuting and skiing in the sun. Or when the midday sun is up, sit in the shade of a tree in the lush garden or visit the local community of Kipungani to learn more about traditional coastal life of the people who live on Lamu island.
Easy to reach, the house is a 30 minute speedboat from Lamu airport through the mangroves. On arriving, you will park up on the large, golden sand beach. With few other properties in the area, the beach feels exclusive and secluded but also with a fun vibe - a beach bar serving great pina coladas makes for a great place to watch the sun set over the ocean.
The staff waiting at the house are local to Lamu and dedicated to providing the best experience possible. Highly trained, personable and delighted to show you the best of this island, you can expect the best kind of service - exactly what The Safari Series is known for.
Quick Info:
Kizingoni, Lamu island
The magic of Lamu island - how can it be so hard to describe? Because something so magical doesn’t have words that can do it justice. Upon arriving at Lamu's tiny airport, your first steps lead you down a lengthy pier to our waiting boat. Stepping aboard, the scent of aged salt, sand and people fills the air, along with the shouting from people hurrying bags from plane to boat. Across the narrow channel of the Indian Ocean, Lamu Town emerges into view—a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and East Africa's oldest and most impeccably preserved Swahili settlement. Continuously inhabited for the past 700 years, Lamu town is a labyrinth of winding alleyways, small squares, mosques, and hidden shops selling everything. With a population of around 25,000, the town remains a rich repository of Swahili culture while also reflecting the influences of Indians, Omanis, Persians, and Portuguese.
But shouting and business is for everyone else, because when our speedboat starts its engine, the crowd go left and we head right. Chuchungi House is a 30 minute speedboat ride down the mangrove channels to the other side of Lamu island - away from the hustle and bustle of Muslim life in the tiny town (fear not - we highly recommended getting the boat back for a day trip into town to look around Lamu town and its sister village of Shela!)
Arrive 30 minutes later, wind in your hair and salt across your face, at a beach so golden, so quiet and so relaxing, its hard to imagine life anywhere else. Jump of the boat to be welcomed by our incredible team and head into the house - ready to spend your days eating seafood, reading your book, drinking G&Ts, visiting local beach bars and restaurants and perfecting your waterskiing on the speedboat behind you…
Food
Nestled along the pristine shores, our private house offers a culinary journey that celebrates the bounty of the sea with a commitment to sustainability. The menu, crafted around locally and sustainably caught fish and shellfish, tantalizes with its freshness and ethical sourcing. From succulent grilled lobster caught just offshore to delicately seared tuna infused with coastal flavors, each dish is a testament to our dedication to supporting local fishermen and preserving marine ecosystems.
Why not spend an afternoon picking your way through the tidal shores looking for mussels to add to the volgone dish or crack an oyster picked from the rocky outcrops found out to sea. Otherwise some fresh yellowfin tuna made into sushi for sundowners on the beach. Our fish is line caught by local fisherman in the creek or out in the ocean, with our menu being seasonal and based upon what can be found during your stay. Prawns, crabs, octopus, lobster, many types of fish and mor e are served up as delicious creations by our kitchen team.
At our home, we are deeply committed to making a positive impact on the local community and conserving the natural beauty of the area.
Every aspect of our operations reflects this dedication, from supporting local artisans and businesses to implementing eco-friendly practices. By sourcing materials locally and reducing waste, we aim to create a sustainable and harmonious environment for both our guests and the community. By staying at our house and by paying the conservation fee, our efforts in conservation help preserve the pristine coastline and vibrant marine ecosystems, you are ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy the natural beauty of our surroundings.
Through collaboration with local organizations and a commitment to responsible tourism, we strive to be a force for good, enhancing the well-being of the community and protecting the environment. We highly recommend guests take part in the community visit to Kipungani village, to learn more about coastal life for the communities who call the island home - visit the local school, enjoy chai with the women’s group and see how traditional work on dhows keeps the men of the village in employment.
